my son only uses his left hand to eat and gets bite marks on his hand because he refuses to eat with utensils, I've tried different types of spoons, plastic, silicone, themed, musical... yeah to no avail... is this just a phase or am I lacking something that I dont know?Give him finger foods for the most part until he's closer to three. He's still working on things. Don't worry, mom, he won't always eat with his hands. He'll be pushing you to let him grow up before you know it. Relax and enjoy. NaniYou can't expect an 18-month-old to eat with utensils. They don't have those fine-motor skills yet. Start teaching him when he's about 3.He doesn't have the motor-skills to do this, and he is too young to understand the concept of being polite. Really, let him work it out on his own.My almost 19 month old still uses her fingers. UNLESS it's something she can "stab" with her fork. She caught on to that pretty quick. But she's still learning how to hold her spoon and keep the food on it. The weird thing is...she can use both right and left hand to eat. It's kind funny to watch her. He doesn't understand the need to use utensils yet. He is feeling the different textures of the foods as he touches them, and doesn't get the need for utensils yet. When you do get them, get small spoons that can easily be held by him. Make it really obvious that big kids use forks or spoons. Don't start him with a spoon, fork and knife, start him with a spoon. It can do whatever he needs to do at that age. But for now, just let him eat with his hands. Do maybe guide his right hand into the food and guide it to his mouth in order to get used to his right hand. Does he use his right hand otherwise? If he doesn't, it may be time for a doc appointment, or physical therapy if your pediatrician recommends it. #If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
