In order to get myself to read more what should I do?

I honestly find that judging a book by it's cover helps. I've found most of my favourite authors and books because of their covers. I just wander through stores and libraries until I see a cover that really catches my attention. This hasn't failed for me yet.
There is a bit of truth to it as well. If a publisher knows that he will/has made a lot of money off the book, they can afford putting more money into the cover art.
My favourite authors are Clive Barker and Douglas Coupland if you're interested. Worth checking out perhaps?
Also, if you haven't already, why don't you check out comic books and graphic novels? You may find a whole genre to explore. If you're already into comics, check out Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, Sandman, and even V for Vendetta.
Whether you take my advice or not, I hope you find some good books to read.
I'm going to suggest checking resolved questions on here, but most people just list titles. Look for those that give a synopsis or at least the genre. Read the critics' pages in the papers or magazines.
Lists are useful, but try being spontaneous--you might be surprised at new favorites.
Either go to the library and get several books you want to read or buy the books and keep them handy.
