Just started a Daisy Girl Scout troop, no money :(?

  • We just started our Daisy troop, and unfortunately it's after the cookie fundraiser. So our troop is starting out with no money.

Is it reasonable to as for a troop donation of 30-35 dollars from the parents of the girls that are in the troop.

  • No. . . but it is reasonable to find something you and the girls can do on your own to make money. . . ask parents to donate items to have a troop bake sale, and you and the girls could have a fun night (and probably earn a cooking badge) if you have them help you mix up rice krispie treats and make dirt cups (pudding, oreos, and gummi worms) . . the girls will enjoy getting to help make the stuff, and if you find somewhere good to have it, hardly anyone is going to be able to say no to those cute little faces :)

  • Doesn't your council give you any start up supplies/money?

In any case, troop dues are completely appropriate and understandable. The amount you are asking for seems pretty reasonable, at the rate of 2 meetings a month from now until June, that would be under $2.00 a meeting. Make sure to emphasize that when asking for dues. Also, you'll need to outline what the money pays for; some parents will expect that that money will pay for EVERYTHING, even when it isn't at all reasonable to expect that.
