Running a Gameserver + vBulletin on one server?

  • I'm just curious:
    On a P4 1,6GHz, 1GB RAM...
Do you think it would be possible to run a medium sized vBulletin (30 to 40 Users online average) and a C&C Renegade Gameserver (16 Players) on that machine?
A linux version of the server is not out yet but in development.

You may want to research this and make sure it doesn't affect the drives you are going to use. yup definitely although my 30gb 75gxp ibm 7200 drive is still running, i went and got 40, 60 and 80gb seagate barracuda IV drives.. they're silent, fast and run very cool compared to my ibm drive (seagate drive @28 - 33C versus ibm drive @32 - 36C )

  • I would say yes it could handle it. P4 is an excellent server chip. 1 GB ram should be plenty. What is the hdd setup on that box though?

  • The server has just been ordered but we will have 2 x 40GB IBM HDDs (7200rpm) and we propably will set them up as Software Raid as for mirroring (not sure yet)

  • I'd be willing to wager that the 7200s will be fast enough to handle the load.
