I believe the engine in the 1982 transam(aka kitt) is a 305 chev how good is it?? If underpowered what engine would give the power associated with a muscle car of that era?? A 305 Chevy is not one of my favorite GM engines. It can last as long as any other engine if taken care of. It is definitely underpowered as it came in that car. A Chevy 350 will bolt right in place and make a good deal more power. You can buy a new 350 from GM for under $2000 that has a warranty. What a deal! Check out Jeg's High Performance

260 horsepower and 350 ft/lbs torque will wake up that Trans Am. And that is a stock engine. its not the best engine out there but its ok. i would put a 350 or 355 in it there really reliable and have plenty of power.probably a 305 2v, ok, but not much power..It's a really bad motor. It'll be reliable but has no power whatsoever.sorry they quit building muscle cars in 1972, if you want more power then put a built 350 or a stroker 383 in it, they will drop right in and bolt up to your tranny.here's how i think of it .... the engine is only as good as you make it, my last 305 with slight mods smoked a 07 rx8. and trust me, its all the more better you beat some one with a 305
so instead of wasting a good engine just mod the hell out of it.... and trust me its not a wast of money cuse almost every part you put on a 305 will flip to a 350 with no problem then when your 305 burns up you can buy a sStandard350 and build it up with the parts you aalreadyhave
but this is all based on if you have money or not
you would ddefiantly want a 350
so at any rate good luck and dont go hondaI had a pontiac firebird with a305 4 barrel carb. it kicked butt. 350 way better!I`m a previous owner of a 1982 ta with the 305. The whole drive train is junk. After 2 motors and 2 transmissions . I ripped it out and put a 350 and turbo 350 into. Ran great then till a lady pulled out in front of me and i totaled it a month latter . i like my 93 ta there is no comparison in power.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
